Diversity, Inclusion and More with MJ Truex

MJ Truex, who leads USA Swimming's Diversity and Inclusion team, joined me from Colorado Springs to discuss her life in swimming and how she got to that role. I learned a lot in the process and I hope you do too.

We discuss some of the issues that I've brought up in the blog, especially when it comes to gender diversity in coaching, and what USA Swimming sees as its role in tackling a range of issues.

World Champs Redux with Garrett McCaffrey

This week there will be two Swim Briefs! In addition to the regular Friday podcast, I called up Garrett McCaffrey for a special bonus pod to discuss the World Championships in Budapest.

Garrett and I talk all the big stories, including the Larry Bird of Swimming and what kind of comparison you can make to other sports with Ledecky's 200 free.

Professionalism, Hiring and Welcoming Criticism with Kathleen Klein Prindle

In a far reaching conversation with Kathleen Klein Prindle, Nico Messer and I got a lot of answers from the head coach of Performance Aquatics and Vice President of the American Swim Coaches Association.

Real Talk With Alexis Keto

This week I managed to nab Alexis Keto for a podcast. We addressed some uncomfortable topics (mainly for me) and although there were some "women in coaching" questions, the discussion went to a lot of places.

Both Alexis and I talk about some of the lessons we've learned in the context of that, and Alexis gives out some tough love.

Paul Yetter and Nico Messer On Test Sets

Today another cooperative podcast between Chris DeSantis Coaching and Proswimworkouts, we got an Olympic coach to weigh in on Test Sets. Why do we use them? What are they fore? And what are they exactly?

Paul Yetter goes deep, including an explanation of how Jon Urbanchek's color charts helped him to become a better coach in 2006 and ways you need to scale what you measure to different types of swimmers.

Ribeye Steaks and 30 Minute Workouts with Shawn Klosterman

This week I talked to one of my best friends on the internet, Shawn Klosterman, about the amazing results he's been able to produce training by himself, eating what many consider an extreme diet, and occasionally donning a full viking outfit before his appearances in finals.

Shawn's story is inspiring for anyone swimming who says to themselves "it's not worth it for me to get in and train today".

Wanna train like Sean?

The Legend of 100x100s with Nico Messer

Following up on last week's introduction, Nico Messer and I have it out about 100x100 and sets like it. We take both sides of the debate and discuss some of the things we look for when considering a swim practice like this.

This podcast is sponsored by ProSwimWorkouts. As part of that sponsorship you can get 20% off a premium subscription to PSW by entering the coupon code "CRDESANTIS". By doing so you will support this podcast, the blog and everything Chris DeSantis Coaching.

Lets Nerd Out About Some Swim Workouts With Nico Messer

This week is the first of many podcasts to come with Nico Messer, where we're going to talk about workouts! NIco runs Professional Swim Workouts, a site where you can share and see other workouts submitted by coaches. You can read more about our partnership here.

In this opening episode, Nico and I get to introducing ourselves, why we want to have better conversations about swimming, and even tease some of the topics that are coming down the line.

Uncomfortable Conversations with Harmilee Cousin III

This week i called Harmilee Cousin III, the head junior and associate head coach of Y Spartaquatics Swim Club. Harmilee is in his second year with the club, and he's got an interesting story about how he decided that being a swim coach was what he wanted to make a life out of.

Harmilee also has a really important coaching skill that I want to talk about, as well as get into some parts of conversation we don't typically have in swimming.
